Neil Martin, critic of Wine Advocate, has also been enchanted with the new Undurraga wines and granted to 8 of them 90 or more points (#204, December/2012).
The origin of Viña Undurraga goes back to 1879, when Francisco Undurraga Vicuña began the planning of the winery and the importation of several European inputs and know-how. The winemaker, the cooper, and the Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir cuts were imported from France, and those of Riesling and Gewürztraminer from Germany. In 1885 Viña Undurraga was officially established.
In 2006 Undurraga was incorporated by Vinos del Pacífico (Chilean familiar company) and began a deep and brave reformulation of quality, style, and positioning of the brand.
In 2007 a new cellar dedicated to the production of premium wines was built. New vineyards were acquired in the prestigious sub-regions of Leyda, Maipo, Cerros de Almahue and Cauquenes, increasing the planted area from 600 to 1.800 hectares. New wine lines were created: Aliwen, Sibaris, and the famous T.H. (Terroir Hunter, the most awarded Chilean winemaking project).
New labels and packaging have been developed to convey the new image of the winery and its products to consumers – from young and beginner audiences to great connoisseurs.
We are deeply proud to represent Undurraga in Brazil, whose professional team, extremely recognized, competent, creative and audacious, is committed to positioning the winery among the most contemporary and prestigious in Chile.
